Arctic Ocean with Barrow

Day One:

Travel north on the Steese, Elliott highways, and from Livengood we begin the “Dalton” Highway to Prudhoe Bay. Known locally as the “Haul Road”.

Stops this first day will include:

  • Yukon River for lunch on your own
    Arctic Blast

  • Bakers Knob for photos of the Trans Alaskan Pipeline as it zig zags across the Tundra

  • Finger Mountain to learn how the country was formed by lava outcroppings 300 million years ago

  • A photo at the Arctic Circle

  • This day is complete by entering the beautiful Dietrich Valley

  • Dinner on your own in Coldfoot
  • Overnight will be in Coldfoot

Optional Add-On: Anaktuvuk Pass Adventure from Coldfoot – fly from Coldfoot over the Gates of the Arctic National Park and land in the Nunamuit village of Anaktuvuk Pass.

 

Day Two:

Back on the Dalton Highway and continuing through the Dietrich Valley the mountains to your left form the border with Gates of the Arctic National Park. The mountains to your right form the border with the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).

We will start our climb over Atigun Pass the highest in Alaska at 4875 feet with Chandalar Shelf. At the Chandalar Valley we will be North of the Alaskan tree line and in open tundra. At Atigun Pass we begin our traveling onto the North Slope of Alaska, from here all waters flow north to the Arctic Ocean.

 

Day Three:

  • Fly from Prudhoe Bay to Barrow (departure and arrival times vary)

  • Overnight at the Top of the World

    • At 71° 18° latitude you are at the top

 

Day Four:

  • Sightseeing tour of Barrow
  • Discover the ceremonies, stories, and traditions of the Inupiat Eskimo
  • Fly from Barrow to Fairbanks (flights to Anchorage can be arranged for a higher price)

Southbound Departure:

This tour is also available as a flight North and ground tour South.  It is the same itinerary as above only in reverse order.  It would depart on Day 1 at 7:30 AM and return to Fairbanks at approx. 9:00 PM on Day 4.

Northbound departures: Monday / Wednesday / Saturday

Southbound departures: Tuesday / Thursday / Sunday

Meals:
Meals are not included but can be purchased along the way and at the overnight accommodations.

Luggage Limits:
Overnight bags are limited to a carry-on sized bag per person with a weight limit of 15 pounds. Extra luggage can be stored in Fairbanks at no charge.

Reservation Requirements:

  • Name of each guest AS IT APPEARS on your identification

  • Individual body weight of each guest

  • Security information for Arctic Ocean shuttle – either driver’s license number and state of issue OR passport number and country of issue.

Deposit/Payment:
A deposit of 50% is due at the time of the reservation. The remaining balance is due 30 days before the tour date. Full payment is due for any reservation made within 30 days of the tour date. Credit cards accepted are Visa and Mastercard.

Cancellation:
As soon as the reservation is made the airline ticket between Fairbanks and Barrow is non-refundable. If the reservation is changed the ticket is subject to a change fee up to $150 and any additional fares associated with the new ticket. If the reservation is cancelled outside of 7 days of the tour date all but the airline ticket will be refunded. Any cancellations within 7 days of the tour date are non-refundable.
